5 easy ways to wear colour

So. You want to branch out and start wearing more colour this year? Wearing colour doesn’t have to mean miles outside your comfort zone. Colour works best when it feels ‘like you’—easy and intentional and is where confidence starts to grow.

1: Start Small ( and yes, accessories and makeup count!)

If colour feels intimidating, begin with the support cast, not the main character. Picking up an affordable trending colour piece starts the experimenting process while interesting little colour details make all the difference to a simple or neutral outfit. Accessories like a costume necklace, scarf or shoe, allow you to experiment without committing to a full look and they’re often where confidence starts to build.

2: Find a new neutral beyond black!

Even though I specialise in colour, I am a self confessed neutral girl who loves the predictability of a minimalist wardrobe but this doesn’t mean just black and white! Navy, cream, blush, camel, tan, brown, beige, chocolate and grey shades are all neutrals that shout elegance and also pair beautifully with their appropriate sister colours rather than anchoring every colour with black.

3: Anchor Colour With Denim

Think of denim as another neutral. Denim is the best equaliser. Pairing colour with jeans keeps outfits grounded and modern. A bright knit, colourful blazer, or patterned top instantly feels wearable when styled with your favourite denim.

4: Tonal Dressing

Repeating a colour—even subtly—makes an outfit feel intentional and polished. Echoing a tone or repeating a shade somewhere in your outfit is a small trick that creates cohesion without trying too hard. Keep it interesting and add ‘depth’ by playing with texture as to not make your outfit appear flat.

5: Play on print.

Use pattern as a guide to add more colour to the rest of your outfit. This is a great tip for planning a cohesive capsule wardrobe for travelling too! Take a colour you love from within the pattern and repeat it in block colours in the rest of your outfit. Easy!
